Werder Bremen sporting chief Clemens Fritz has addressed Victor Boniface’s injury issues, weighing in on talks linking the striker with a return to Leverkusen, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 24-year-old forward joined Werder on a season-long loan during the summer transfer deadline day, a move that stunned many after he was already in talks with AC Milan.
Away from the Bay Arena, life has been tough for Boniface. Since joining the Green and Whites, the 2024 Bundesliga Rookie of the Year has not scored for his new side in 11 games.
His time at the Weser Stadion has been plagued by fitness, weight and injury problems which played a huge role in why he was omitted from Eric Chelle’s AFCON 2025 squad.

Soccer Boniface could exit Werder Bremen in the January transfer window
Werder have confirmed the former Union St Gilloise striker will miss the club’s final league game of the year against Augsburg, alongside his International teammate, Felix Agu.
Boniface is currently dealing with a knee injury, and Mr Fritz described the Super Eagles forward as battered. It is also worth knowing that a knee problem is what ruined Boniface’s chances of joining AC Milan last summer.
“Victor is just battered, and we are in contact with the Leverkusen doctors. We want to get a little rest in there now,” the former Werder Bremen left-back said in quotes revealed by Deichstube.
“He’ll switch off for a few days, but then we’ll have to see how it develops. Then we will look together at how we continue to do it,
“There has been no Victor approaching us, nor are there such considerations on Leverkusener or on our side.
“First of all, it is important that he gets fit again. Everything else seems completely open at the moment,” Clemens Fritz concluded.
Although things aren’t going too well for the Nigerian forward on the pitch, off the pitch, he’s having a blast. Boniface recently made a big boy purchase, a blue 2025 version of the Lamborghini Urus with a value of around $350,000.
