Police Issue Update on Bandits’ Abduction of Secondary School Students in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed that armed bandits invaded St. Mary’s Private (Catholic) Secondary School, Papiri in Agwara Local Government Area, abducting an as-yet-unascertained number of students from the school’s hostel.

The confirmation is made in a statement signed by SP Wasiu A. Abiodun, Police Spokesperson for the Niger State Command.

The incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on November 21, 2025, according to a report received by the Command.

Police tactical units, military components, and other security agencies have swiftly moved to the scene and are currently combing the forests in an intense effort to rescue the abducted students.

Commissioner of Police for Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman,

reiterated the commitment to rescuing the students unhurt and appealed to the public to remain calm and support the security operations.

CP Elleman further announced that the incident will be investigated, and action will be taken against the school management for continuing academic activities despite a State government directive on school closures in the area due to existing security challenges.

The confirmation follows a recent PRNigeria report indicating that terrorists had invaded a school in the Niger State area, close to the Borgu axis near the notorious Kainji Dam enclave.
