Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Robinson, Thompson, and more

Soccer

Fulham is seeking its second-straight EFL Cup semifinal berth in the past two years.

Antonee Robinson and his Cottager teammates will travel to St. James Park on Wednesday for a quarterfinal date against Newcastle United. The U.S. men’s national team left back made his long-awaited return on Saturday, logging 90 minutes in a 3-2 road win over Burnley.

After missing most of the campaign due to a lingering knee issue, the 28-year-old Robinson looked back to his old self again. He delivered a secondary assist on Fulham’s second goal at Turf Moor while also delivering several key plays on the defensive side of the field.

Fulham boss Marco Silva will hope that Robinson can stay in the starting lineup long-term as the West London club seeks a push into the top-half of the table.

In Europe, Alyssa Thompson leads Chelsea into a UEFA Women’s Champions Cup trip to VfL Wolfsburg. Phallon Tullis-Joyce and Manchester United take on Juventus. Chris Richards and Crystal Palace welcome Finnish side KuPS to Selhurst Park in Conference League play.

Elsewhere, Ricardo Pepi, Sergino Dest and PSV aim to advance in the Dutch KNVB Cup. Erik Palmer-Brown seeks to do the same in the Greek Cup.
