‘Insecure’ Actor & Filmmaker Sujata Day Signs With Stagecoach Entertainment

EXCLUSIVE: Actor and filmmaker Sujata Day has signed with Stagecoach Entertainment for representation in all areas.

The Pittsburgh native is an NAACP Image Award-nominated director for her debut feature film, Definition Please, which she also wrote, produced, and starred in. The film follows Day as a former Scripps Spelling Bee champion who must reconcile with her estranged brother when he returns home to help care for their sick mother. Boasting a 95% fresh Rotten Tomatoes score and multiple film festival awards, the dramedy was executive produced by Mindy Kaling, then acquired by Ava DuVernay’s Array and Netflix.

Day developed and wrote a new installment of Universal’s comedy film franchise American Pie, based on her original pitch. She has also created projects with WBD, 20th Television, UCP, Lionsgate, eOne, Macro, Hoorae, Get Lifted and JuVee.

Up next, she is one of the writers and directors of the horror anthology feature film Deepest, Darkest, in addition to starring alongside Rosario Dawson and Ernie Hudson. Deepest, Darkest will feature various TV writers behind the lens to tell stories of horror, suspense, dark comedy, and edgy science fiction, each revolving around that most human of impulses: the keeping of secrets.

As an actor, Day is best known for her starring role as CeCe in Issa Rae’s The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, the web series that partly inspired the latter’s hit HBO series Insecure. Day recurred across four seasons of Insecure as the character Sarah. Additional small-screen credits include I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson for Netflix and Brooklyn Nine-Nine for Fox/NBC. On the unscripted side, she hosts the Dungeons & Dragons culinary Amazon series Heroes’ Feast.

Day’s a Sundance Lab fellow, SXSW mentor and Ryan Murphy Half Initiative alum who honed her improv comedy skills at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. She regularly guest-performs in L.A.-based improv shows.

Day will continue to be represented by Global Artists Agency and Myman Greenspan.
