HKJC signs Chelsea FC’s Casper Stylsvig to lead global sports expansion

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has appointed former Chelsea FC executive Casper Stylsvig as its new Executive Director of Sports Business, tasked with driving the organisation’s global sports brand development and diversification strategy for Hong Kong racing.

Stylsvig will assume his role on 15 January 2026, overseeing all aspects of HKJC’s sports business operations, which include horse racing, football, lottery, and emerging sports initiatives aimed at expanding revenue streams and boosting international recognition.

According to Chief Executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the new hire reflects the Club’s intent to evolve into a world-leading sports and entertainment organisation.

“Casper brings proven global business acumen and deep expertise across the sports and entertainment markets,” the CEO remarked. “His appointment strengthens the Club’s strategic capabilities as we enter our next phase of growth.”

Bringing extensive experience in modern sports commercialisation, Stylsvig joins HKJC following his tenure as Chief Revenue Officer at Chelsea FC, where he implemented a commercial restructuring programme and launched a five-year strategic plan that delivered substantial growth across sponsorship, media, and fan engagement.

Prior to Chelsea, he held senior executive roles at FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Fulham FC, and AC Milan, where he led digital transformation projects and secured major international partnerships.

As Executive Director, Stylsvig will be responsible for growing both wagering and non-wagering revenues through asset commercialisation, partnership development, and customer acquisition strategies. He will also oversee the multi-billion-dollar Racecourse Master Plan and develop new international business opportunities.

Stylsvig described the move as a “natural professional progression”, adding: “I feel privileged to join The Hong Kong Jockey Club at such a transformative period in its history. The organisation stands as one of the world’s leading sports institutions, combining commercial excellence with a strong sense of social responsibility.

“I look forward to developing innovative solutions, expanding our global reach, and creating exceptional experiences for fans and customers in Hong Kong and beyond.”

The appointment comes as HKJC continues to broaden its operations beyond traditional wagering, investing heavily in digital transformation, sports technology, and international partnerships.

In September, the Hong Kong Executive Council approved reforms to the Gambling Ordinance Bill, granting the Club new rights to offer sports betting on professional basketball — the first extension of its sports wagering remit since football in 1997.

Under the new framework, HKJC is required to present a comprehensive strategy outlining how basketball betting will be promoted responsibly and in line with Hong Kong’s strict consumer protection and community benefit standards.
