Eagles work out 2022 second-round pick

Football

The Philadelphia Eagles worked out free agent edge rusher Drake Jackson on Wednesday, according to the NFL’s official personnel notice.

Jackson, 24, played college football for the USC Trojans before being selected by the San Francisco 49ers with a second-round pick (No. 61 overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Jackson logged six sacks in 23 games with San Fran before suffering a torn patellar tendon in November 2023. He then missed the entire 2024 season before being waived by the Niners in May 2025.

The Eagles aren’t the only team to show interest in Jackson; he previously met with the Washington Commanders, Baltimore Ravens, and New York Jets.

Jackson has purportedly been cleared to play but teams haven’t exactly been rushing to sign him. Perhaps he’s trying to weigh the right fit.

With the Eagles recently placing Nolan Smith and Ogbo Okoronkwo on injured reserve, it’s not a shock that they have interest in more edge rusher depth. But they already have five guys at the position in Jalyx Hunt, Za’Darius Smith, Azeez Ojulari, Joshua Uche, and Patrick Johnson. Smith could also return around the bye week.

Jackson would be a good flyer as a practice squad signing but we’ll see if he’s interested in that kind of role. Whether he signs in Philly or not, definitely someone worth kicking the tires on.
