The Super Eagles of Nigeria just came off the back of a rather unfulfilling International break as they drew with South Africa and secured a slender victory over Rwanda, Soccernet.ng reports.

While four points from a possible six seems fair, it fell short of everything Eric Chelle’s team needed in a bid to stand a chance to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With two games left to play, the Nigerian team are hopeful for slips from their opposition, and have to ensure victories in the remaining games.

Still, an opportunity to don the green and white colours of Nigeria is a privilege to many players, a heroic call certainly to Bruno Onyemaechi.

The Olympiacos defender secured the Greek Super League trophy back in May alongside his teammates and revealed he has a duty to keep playing at club level to secure his spot with the Nigerian National team.

“The most important thing for me is to get more game time because if you don’t play much, it’s very difficult to be in the national team, and you always want to represent your country, so that’s my focus,” the 26-year-old said in an interview with Brila.

Reflecting on his first six months in Greece, the full-back mentioned his delight at having won silverware at such a historic club.

“It’s been great. For me, it’s one of my biggest achievements to go to that type of historic club and win two trophies with them.

“I was really happy, and I’m looking forward to more. The culture there and from where I came from [Boavista] is quite different.

“But the most important thing is that you’re at a bigger club, the more pressure you have. You need to win the league. So I will say the pressure here is higher than that of Portugal,” Onyemaechi concluded.

Onyemaechi played in both of Nigeria’s games over the September International break, but he only has nine minutes of action for Olympiacos this season.
