Popular Beitbridge Businessman Kills His Wife Then Commits Suicide

A popular Beitbridge businessman, Farai Longwe, known to many as ‘Mr Grocery’, is reported to have shot his wife dead before he commits suicide on Wednesday night.

The community is reeling, struggling to comprehend the tragedy that has unfolded behind the doors of one of its most well-known families. Longwe operated a successful chain of grocery stores throughout the town’s western suburbs, making him a familiar and respected face.

The horrific scene was discovered after the property’s landlord was alerted by the sound of gunshots emanating from the couple’s private quarters. Police were immediately contacted, and a team was dispatched to the residence. Upon arrival, they made the grim discovery of two bodies locked inside a bedroom.

The district’s Officer Commanding Police, Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, confirmed that a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event has been launched. He stated,

‘We have deployed a special team of detectives to the ground and I am yet to get full details. We will advise on further details at a later stage.’

The exact motive that led to such a desperate and final act remains a mystery to authorities and the community alike.

Longwe was loved in the local business community, and the couple were a familiar part of the social circles.
