McLaren Construction (Midlands & North) has secured a contract from developer Panattoni to deliver a warehouse and distribution centre at Panattoni Park Swindon.

The design-and-build project, due to complete in January 2026, will deliver a 50,660 square metre facility on the former Honda manufacturing site.

Luke Arnold, regional director at McLaren Midlands & North, said the fast-track contract was a “significant step” in the company’s expansion in the South West.

The contractor did not divulge the value of the job, but data intelligence provider Glenigan puts it at £44.1m.

Steelworks have been finished and roofing and cladding are under way. The scheme also includes two floors of office space, a decked car park, service yards, landscaping, drainage and building services.

The facility is designed to achieve BREEAM Outstanding and EPC A+ (offices) and A (warehouse) ratings.

It will target net zero carbon for upfront emissions with a performance goal below 300kg of carbon dioxide per square metre, McLaren said.

The site was used as an airfield during the Second World War before becoming a Honda plant in the late 20th century.

Panattoni is redeveloping the area after the carmaker closed its operations in 2021.

UMC Architects is leading the design, with KAM Project Consultants as quantity surveyor and BWB Consulting as structural and civil engineer.

Construction CDM Services is principal designer, while C3 Design Approvals is overseeing building control.
