Taiwo Awoniyi has been relegated to a peripheral role at Nottingham Forest, and he would have to leave if he wants game time…

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has emerged as a potential transfer target for German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

Awoniyi lost his starting shirt at Nottingham Forest to Chris Wood last season. The Super Eagles star was consistently in and out of the team due to injuries, thereby letting Wood to capitalize and build on it.

This season, things have even gotten worse for Awoniyi, as the Tricky Trees have gotten more attacking reinforcements like Igor Jesus, and Arnaud Kalimuendo to help them put up a good showing in the Europa League.

With these players now at City Ground, Awoniyi’s chances of getting more minutes have reduced significantly. In fact, he has not even played a minute this season.

Wood has maintained his place as a starter, while coach Nuno Espirito Santo has preferred Jesus as the second-choice striker. And there is also Kalimuendo lurking.

With the possibility of getting more game time now bleak, Awoniyi has to look elsewhere if he wants to get minutes this season.

The German club need a prolific marksman this season, and they believe Awoniyi could be their man, as he has Bundesliga experience.

However, they aren’t looking at an outright buy at the moment. Werder Bremen want to sign the Super Eagles star loan for this season.

The transfer window closes on September 1, so they will have to make their move soon.
