The Netherlands’ Gambling Authority has announced stricter enforcement of sponsorship rules for sports federations and event organizers, providing additional guidance on gambling-related advertising.
In a recent move, the Ksa contacted the organizers of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort to clarify the regulations. As a result, no teams will feature gambling provider sponsorships during the event.
Clear rules for foreign teams
The Ksa emphasized that the restrictions apply equally to all teams participating in events held in the Netherlands, including foreign teams. Visible sponsorships from gambling providers are prohibited, even if the operator holds a license in another country.
Under Dutch law, displaying advertising or other visible expressions of gambling providers without a Dutch license is considered promoting illegal gambling, which is strictly forbidden. Licensed providers, meanwhile, are also barred from advertising in relation to online gambling at such events.
The regulator has urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant and to reach out for clarification in cases of doubt, ensuring compliance with the country’s strict gambling advertising framework.
