Immersive alt-R&B world-building…

London vocalist Demae continues her journey with new single ‘Don’t Play The Fool’.

The songwriter stood out with an EP on Touching Bass, before signing to the Jorja Smith-helmed FAMM imprint.

A run of singles this year have paid witness to this Harlesden-raised artist’s talent, with ‘Ain’t Easy’ and the groove-centred ‘Millionaire’ framing her originality.

New single ‘Don’t Play The Fool’ was recorded in Gothenburg, and emerges from sessions with Swedish powerhouse Erik Rodin of Little Dragon.

Demae explains…

“Don’t Play the Fool’ was actually one of the first instrumentals Erik Bodin (of Little Dragon) sent me before we started working together in Sweden. I instantly connected with the bassline and that strong, shimmering jingle melody in the background. As always with most of my music, it draws from my own recent experiences. I think this track is a reminder to be kind, but not at the expense of yourself. Stay grounded, and don’t let anyone walk over you… Don’t get played !”

A beautifully immersive feast of alt-R&B world-building, ‘Don’t Play The Fool’ comes backed with a new video, steered by director Ivor Lawson-Adamah.

Tune in now.
