Christantus Uche equalled a 20-year-old Getafe record, as they claimed a hard-fought win in their opening game of the season…

English Premier League clubs Leeds United and Brentford are set to rekindle their interest in Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche, Soccernet.ng reports.

Following Uche’s brilliant performances for Getafe in his debut campaign last season, the 22-year-old midfielder attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.

Uche has been linked with Chelsea, Brentford, Leeds United, and Atletico Madrid. However, none of them has opened talks with Getafe and tabled a bid yet.

They were even speculations that Uche might try to force a move away from Los Azulones, but the Nigerian has remained with the club.

Uche started Getafe’s LaLiga opener against Celta Vigo on Sunday, and he was the star of the show. He set up the first goal and scored the second, as his side ran out with a hard-fought 2-0 win.

The Super Eagles striker equalled a 20-year-old record at the club, as he became the first player since former Spanish striker Riki, to score and assist a goal for Getafe in a LaLiga opener. Uche also got the Man of the Match award for all his troubles.

1+1 – Christantus Uche is the first Getafe player to both score and assist in a LaLiga game since Christantus Uche himself against Real Sociedad in January 2025, and the second to achieve this feat with the club on MD 1 of the competition, after Riki vs Espanyol in 2005. Now, according to Sp Getafe, Brentford and Leeds United want to rekindle their interest in Uche. They also report that the Nigerian has admirers from the German Bundesliga.

Getafe will be willing to do business for a fee in the region of €25 million, which is Uche’s release clause.

Soccer Why Brentford Need to go All Out For Christantus Uche

Although Leeds United and Brentford are the clubs that are interested in Christantus Uche, it seems the Bees need him more.

Brentford have lost a lot of quality this summer. They’ve lost their coach Thomas Frank and their highest goalscorer from last season Bryan Mbeumo.

They are also on the brink of losing their second highest goalscorer from last season Yoanne Wissa.

A signing like Uche would give them an edge, not just in the attacking third, but in the middle of the park.

Uche would provide Brentford another dynamic in their attack with his grit and technical ability. If he plays off a quick attacker, he can hold up play and feed passes to runners ahead of him.

His price also makes him a very good option. Getafe need money to be able to register players this season. If Brentford table a decent offer, Getafe would likely sell.
