Texas Man Discovered Ex-Fiancee Married Him Without His Consent

A Texas man recently made the shocking discovery that he had somehow become married to the woman he had just broken up with, without his consent.

Imagine breaking up with someone only to find out the next day that you are legally married to them, even though you never even attended a marriage ceremony. This is the bizarre experience of a Texas man who claims he was married to his ex-fiancée without his knowledge. The 42-year-old man, whose identity has not been revealed, admitted to having been in a committed relationship with 36-year-old Kristin Marie Spearman and visiting the Wayne County clerk’s office to get a marriage license. However, the pair never made it to the altar. They got into an argument, and the man told Spearman that he didn’t want to be in a relationship with her, but his ex-fiancée had other plans…

Earlier this month, just days after breaking up with his girlfriend, the 42-year-old man received a gift bag from Bath & Body Works, which contained some products as well as a copy of an officiated marriage license dated June 13 with his and Spearman’s names on it, and a photo of his ex-fiancee hoding up the document legally recognizing their union.

According to the McLennan County website, a couple must show up in person and have valid identification to receive an application for a marriage license, but in this unusual case, Kristin Marie Spearman allegedly managed to get a local pastor to certify the marriage even though the groom wasn’t in attendance. She then took a certified marriage license to her local county clerk’s office and filed the certificate with officials.

“I don’t think in 23 years I’ve ever heard of anybody who managed somehow to get married to someone who wasn’t present for a ceremony,” Beverly Hills Police Chief Kory Martin told FOX 44, adding that the victim is now coming to terms with the situation and exploring options to fix it.

“I’ve talked to the victim and he’s going through a significant process to try to fix this,” Martin said. “So that’s a whole other situation is — not only do you have the concern of ‘What does that mean for my safety and my property?’ You know, which is a huge conversation in this, but also, ‘What do I have to do to fix it?’”

Meanwhile, Spearman has been arrested and charged with third-degree felony stalking.
