Triathlon legend Alistair Brownlee issues welcome health update after painful bike crash at Traka 360 gravel race in Spain

Get the ultimate guide to destination racing

Triathlon legend Alistair Brownlee did not get to finish the epic Traka 360 gravel race in Spain this weekend, but there is good news.

The two-time Olympic champion is spending 2025 taking on new challenges after retiring from elite triathlon late in 2024. Last weekend he made the podium at the UK’s iconic Three Peaks Race.

This weekend it was on to Girona in Spain and the Traka 360 race, but things took a very painful turn for the British superstar as he became a DNF after a crash when his steering tube snapped.

Brownlee on Traka 360 DNF

The 37-year-old swim/bike/run legend released an update on his Instagram account, with the good news that he avoided any major injuries:

“Not the day I was hoping for. Crashed out just before the first aid station when my steering tube snapped and I hit the deck hard.

“Thankfully, nothing broken, just a few cuts, bruises, and a sore body. Gutted not to finish, especially with how much I was enjoying the course up to that point.

“I hate DNFing, but sometimes it’s out of your hands. Big thanks to the organisers and medics who helped me out quickly. I’ll be back.”
