Cult Streaming Platform Minute Shorts Locks In-Flight Distribution Deal With American Airlines

Entertainment

EXCLUSIVE: Minute Shorts, the cult short film streaming platform created by Janvier Wete and Regys Badi, has inked a partnership with American Airlines and will begin distributing its short films on the airline’s in-flight entertainment systems.

Films that will be available in-flight as part of the deal include Tribal Mark, the narrative short from veteran musician and artist Skepta. The film follows Mark, a Nigerian teen adapting to London life, who stumbles upon the underground Black Secret Service. Skepta portrays the seasoned Mark with his Tribal Mark alter ego.

The Virgil Abloh-produced short Sub Eleven Seconds, a documentary piece about sprinting phenom Sha’Carri Richardson, will also land on American Airlines via Minute Shorts alongside Scott Perry’s Omar Apollo — Years To Come, a portrait of the musician and actor.

Watch on Deadline

The selection of Minute Shorts titles on American Airlines will be refreshed every quarter. The streamer has said it plans to release titles from its existing catalogue as well as newly released and previously unreleased works.

Launched in 2019 in London, Minute Shorts has grown to become a cult favorite for young cinephiles. The streamer now also regularly hosts screening events in London as well as New York, and Accra. Last month, Letitia Wright curated an evening of short screenings with the company in London.

“We aim to bring commercial value to the short film space, enabling filmmakers and producers to monetise their work,” the company states in its mission statement. “At its core, Minute Shorts is about building a vibrant, diverse community through a carefully curated selection of short films on our video platform and through physical screening events.”
