‘There’s a chance’ – Mikel Arteta confirms worrying potential Arsenal injury blow days before crunch PSG test

Arsenal could be without Jurrien Timber for their crunch clash with Paris Saint-Germain this week.

The defender was a notable absentee for the Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Saturday – a match that the Gunners lost 2-1.

Timber was spotted in attendance at the Emirates Stadium but after being left out of the matchday squad, questions were asked about his situation.

While refusing to disclose exactly what the issue is, Mikel Arteta did say that he wasn’t confident of seeing the star face PSG on Wednesday night.

Asked if Timber could be fit for PSG, Arteta replied: “No.

“Confident? At the moment, no, because he wasn’t able to play here and we played him for four days.”

Asked what the issue with Timber is, Arteta replied: “I cannot tell you.”

Timber’s last outing was the Champions League semi final first leg with PSG last week.

The 23-year-old played 83 minutes of the game before being replaced by Ben White.

As a result it was White who started at right-back against the Cherries.

Should Timber miss the clash at the Parc des Princes, it would be a bitter blow for Arsenal.

The Dutch star has made 47 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners this term.

In that time he has provided two goals and four assists.

Arsenal will already be without Gabriel Magalhaes and Takehiro Tomiyasu for the clash in Paris.

Meanwhile Riccardo Calafiori will also miss the out after suffering a knee injury on international duty in March.

Arsenal go into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth after goals from Dean Huijsen and Evanilson condemned them to defeat.

However PSG will also be looking to get back to winning ways after suffering a shock defeat to Liam Rosenior’s Strasbourg on Saturday.
