Las Vegas Sphere Bashed for Charging $170 for Pizza

Entertainment

Concert goers at the iconic Sphere entertainment venue in Las Vegas have been shocked to learn that a single pizza can cost upwards of $170, prompting a wave of complaints online.

The Sphere Charges High Prices for Food and Drinks

A Las Vegas news publication recently shared images of what seems to be some menu options for the Sphere. Judging by the photo, visitors will have to prepare some extra budget, because if they want to get a standard 18” pizza while at the Backstreet Boys “Into The Millennium” concert, they’ll have to pay $170. What’s even stranger is the fact that this is actually more expensive than the ticket for the actual concert, which ranges from $92.50 to $162.50.

Now, it should be said that these high prices are specifically for people who have booked a special suite for the concert. Despite that, even if you get the cheapest ticket available for the concert, you should still expect to pay quite a large price for even the most basic items. For example, a beer will still set you back $20 and bottled water $8.

Although these prices seem somewhat more reasonable against the background of the pizza price, they’re still quite high, according to many online users. Some said they have paid some hefty prices for drinks, but they would never pay that for pizza. One X user joked that the pizza should be “flown in directly from Italy” to justify the high cost. Another simply wrote that this is an embarrassing price for a single 18” pepperoni pizza.

This isn’t the first time in recent months that the popular Las Vegas venue has had its reputation negatively impacted. For example, in April, a judge denied a motion to dismiss the noise complaint lawsuit against the Sphere, filed last year by residents of nearby properties.

More About The Sphere

Originally announced in 2018 by the Madison Square Garden Company and designed by Populous, the venue, then known as the MSG Sphere. It is being promoted for its cutting-edge immersive video and audio technologies. It accommodates 17,600 seated guests, with a total capacity of 20,000. Key features include a 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen, advanced audio systems utilizing beamforming and wave field synthesis, and 4D physical effects. The exterior is outfitted with 580,000 square feet of LED displays. Standing 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide, the Sphere cost $2.3 billion to construct, making it the most expensive entertainment venue ever built in the Las Vegas Valley.

Perhaps this could explain the high prices that the Sphere is charging for food and drinks. The venue has a lot of money to recuperate, as it has also been running at a substantial loss of $260 million during the second half of 2024.
