Does Nintendo Switch 2 have a YouTube app? All we know so far

Nintendo Switch 2 is a great console, but unlike its predecessor, it’s missing a YouTube app but that could change soon according to Google—here’s all we know

Switch 2 is finally here, but there’s no YouTube

The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally here, and we’ll be reviewing it in the coming days alongside Mario Kart World, but there’s one thing the new console can’t do that the 2017 original can.

The first Switch didn’t have many apps available outside of games, but it did have a YouTube app—something the Switch 2 is missing entirely, at least for now.

Thankfully, Google has given an update on the app, and confirms that it’s coming soon.

Here’s all we know about YouTube on Nintendo Switch 2 as of a few days after the console’s launch.

Switch 2 YouTube app coming ‘soon’

While many of us use our phones, computers, or TVs for watching YouTube content, there’s clearly an audience that wants the popular app available on their Switch 2.

We can see their point, too, since you could switch from a tricky challenge on Mario Kart World to YouTube to get some tips, then jump back.

Thankfully, the official YouTube account has responded to a fan request for the app on the latest Nintendo console.

“We’re working with Nintendo to make YouTube available on the Switch 2 soon,” the post reads, before pointing to a list of supported devices.

These include the first Switch, of course, as well as Xbox consoles from the 360 onwards, and PS3 onward for Sony console users.

Believe it or not, Switch 1 took a year and a half to get its own YouTube app.

According to Nintendo’s store page, the app debuted on November 8, 2018, some time after the console’s launch on March 3, 2017.

Other requests from fans in recent months include a desire for a web browser on the system, but as we’ve covered here, we can’t see it happening for security reasons.
