Soulja-Boy-Pulled-From-Crypto-Event-Following-Assault-Conviction

Reading Time: 2 minutes

  • Soulja Boy has been removed from the upcoming Stand With Crypto rally in Jersey City
  • The decision followed a recent court ruling finding the rapper liable for sexual battery and assault
  • Stand With Crypto stated they were unaware of the legal developments prior to booking him

Soulja Boy has been pulled from the imminent Stand With Crypto “get out the vote” rally in Jersey City on June 5 following the discovery of an unfavourable ruling in a sexual battery and assault case. The rapper, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was found liable for damages in the civil case last month, but organisers only recently found out about it and have removed him from the event lineup. 070 Shake will still appear at the event, which is intended to encourage voters to take part in an upcoming gubernatorial vote.

Legal Ruling Leads to Event Removal

Soulja Boy is no stranger to the crypto space, having released a ‘song’ called Bitcoin in 2018 and been used as a promoter of various cryptocurrencies. This, apparently, was enough to have him chosen as a star performer at the “get out the vote” event, but organisers were not aware that last month he was found liable for sexual battery and assault.

The lawsuit dates back to 2021 and involves allegations from a former assistant. In April, a jury ordered him to pay $4 million in damages after finding him liable for sexual battery and assault, with the verdict gaining public attention through a Politico report. This eventually prompted Stand With Crypto to reassess his participation in their event, which they have now withdrawn, stating, “Given this information, we have removed him from our event lineup.”

The organisers emphasized that the organization was not aware of the recent legal developments involving Soulja Boy prior to the booking, which will see 070 Shake, a New Jersey native, headlining.

Rally Hopes to Galvanize New Jersey Voters

Stand With Crypto’s rally aims to mobilize the cryptocurrency community ahead of New Jersey’s gubernatorial primary election. Carlos Merino, president of the organization’s New Jersey chapter, highlighted the event as an example of their commitment to engaging crypto enthusiasts in the political process:

Our focus remains on mobilizing crypto supporters and ensuring candidates understand that clear, sensible crypto policy is a priority for New Jersey voters.

Despite the controversy surrounding Soulja Boy’s removal, the organization remains dedicated to its mission of advocating for cryptocurrency policy and encouraging voter participation among crypto supporters.
