Genk share crucial Tolu Arokodare pre-season update amid exit speculations

Soccer

Belgian Jupiler Pro League club Genk are set to open pre-season camp on Friday, June 20, and they have shared an update on Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare, Soccernet.ng reports.

Arokodare just came off a career-best season that saw him contribute 23 goals and seven assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

That has seen him become the subject of transfer talks. There have been speculations that the 24-year-old striker will leave Genk this summer, amid links with English, German, and Portuguese clubs, but nothing concrete has emerged yet.

Meanwhile, Arokodare has been in Nigeria, enjoying his holidays. But Genk revealed some of their plans for the summer on Tuesday.

The players will return to the club on Thursday to undergo a compulsory medical test. Then, they will resume training on Friday.

On Arokodare’s issue, Genk announced that the Super Eagles star would not be joining the rest of the team for the start of pre-season. He and 10 other senior players, who were in action for their national teams will “join later”.

Genk’s announcement about Tolu Arokodare does not give off much about the Super Eagles star’s future. Moreover, he won’t be the only player that will miss the first few days of the club’s pre-season.

As it stands, no club has made any offer for Arokodare. But that could change quickly. In the coming weeks, Arokodare’s next destination should be a bit clearer.
