Melco Resorts Adds Finance Heavyweight John Peter Ben Wang as Independent NED

Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, a major developer, owner, and operator of integrated resorts with casino facilities, announced the addition of a finance veteran to its team. The company leadership welcomed the new member, expressing confidence in his abilities.

On Friday, Melco Resorts & Entertainment announced that it has appointed John Peter Ben Wang as an independent non-executive director (NED). The company added that the appointment was with immediate effect.

In addition to his position as NED, Wang was also appointed as chair of Melco’s audit and risk committee. He was furthermore made a member of the integrated resorts company’s compensation committee and nominating and corporate governance committee.

The board emphasized that Wang qualifies as an “audit committee financial expert.”

Wang Is No Stranger to Melco

Melco pointed out that Wang is no stranger to the company. Prior to his current appointment as NED, Wang served the company as director, with his tenure running from 2006 to 2016. In addition to that, from 2011 to 2019, Wang served as deputy chair and executive director of Summit Ascent Holdings Limited, a Hong Kong Stock Exchange-listed company.

In its release, Melco also highlighted some of Wang’s earlier experiences, which have included a 5-year tenure as the chief financial officer of Melco International Development Limited. Earlier still, Wang held a variety of senior positions at a variety of financial institutions. Thanks to that, he boasts a wealth of financial, accounting and banking expertise.

Melco added that Wang, who is a graduate of the University of Kent in the UK, qualified as a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1985.

CEO Lawrence Ho Welcomed Wang on Board

Melco Resorts welcomed Wang on board, hailing his experience and expressing confidence in his abilities. Lawrence Ho, the IR company’s chair and chief executive officer, commented on the matter and said that Melco is glad to have Wang join the ranks of its directors.

Melco Cemented Its Presence in Sri Lanka

Earlier this year, Melco International Development obtained a 20-year gaming license in Sri Lanka. Although the license was issued in March 2025, it was backdated to April 1, 2024, therefore allowing the company to continue offering gaming in Sri Lanka until April 1, 2044.

In the meantime, Melco is planning to end its Grand Dragon Casino, as well as three of its Mocha Club slots gaming halls, including the Mocha Hotel Royal, Mocha Kuong Fat, and Mocha Grand Dragon Hotel as Macau seeks to diversify its revenue streams.
