Willmott Dixon bags £49m East London business school job

The project will see a 6,700m² seven-storey building rise on the current Mile End site, replacing outdated facilities.

Due to complete in 2027, the scheme will provide flexible teaching and learning spaces tailored to modern academic needs.

Designed by Nicholas Hare Architects, the development also includes new landscaped terraces and public green spaces.

The win adds to Willmott Dixon’s growing education pipeline with the university, following its 2024 job to refurbish and extend the Informatics and Technology Learning building in Bethnal Green.

This involves Willmott Dixon delivering a whole building retrofit and extension, including adding two new storeys above the original property.

Richard Poulter, Willmott Dixon’s managing director for the South, said: “Being able to help deliver this vision is rewarding and underpins our mission of enhancing the facility for the benefit of the students, faculty, and the wider community.”

Construction on both schemes is being delivered while Queen Mary supports over 32,000 students on its degree programmes.
