Soca Warriors draw USA, Saudi Arabia for Gold Cup | Local Sports | trinidadexpress.com

TRINIDAD and Tobago were pooled with familiar rivals USA and Haiti, along with Saudi Arabia following Thursday night’s draw for the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The 18th edition of the confederation’s premier men’s national team tournament will take place from June 14 to July 6, across 14 stadiums and 11 metropolitan areas in the United States and Canada, including five FIFA World Cup 2026 stadiums and three first-time hosts.

The 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup features 16 national teams: the best 15 from the CONCACAF region, all of whom qualified through the latest edition of the CONCACAF Nations League or the 2025 Gold Cup prelims, along with guest team, Saudi Arabia. The tournament will kick off with a group Stage. After round-robin play, from June 14-24, the four group winners and four runners-up (eight teams in total) will advance to the knockout stage. The knockout stage will start with the quarter-finals on June 28 and 29.

The tournament’s official draw was held in Miami, Florida, and was co-hosted by sports anchors and TV presenters Ana Jurka, Mariah Ramharack, and Alejandro Berry. CONCACAF president and FIFA vice-president Victor Montagliani also took part.

T&T last met the USA in a 2023-2024 CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final, losing 3-0 away, but beating the eventual champions 2-1 in Port of Spain.

The Soca Warriors were defeated 3-1 away to Saudi Arabia in a friendly international last December, marking Dwight Yorke’s first match as T&T head coach. Haiti are traditional Caribbean rivals.

The teams have an almost even record with T&T winning 14 of their 30 meetings, with three matches drawn.

When last they met in 2017, Haiti defeated T&T 4-3 in extra time to reach the 2017 Gold Cup playoff final. The match was part of the qualification process for the Gold Cup. With former player Angus Eve in charge, T&T also drew 0-0 in a closed-door friendly prior to the 2023 Gold Cup.
