Cyriel Dessers: Rangers identify best man to replace Super Eagles’ Unity Cup hero

Soccer

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has been heavily linked with a move to Greek giants AEK Athens in the past two weeks, Soccernet.ng reports.

Dessers has had a topsy-turvy stay at Rangers since joining the club from Cremonese two years ago.

The Super Eagles star has contributed 51 goals and 16 assists in 109 appearances for the Gers, but he has been consistently maligned by the fans as they believe that he does not do enough.

Meanwhile, there have been speculations that Dessers could exit Glasgow in the last two years. Last summer, Dessers’ future was in the balance until he confirmed that he was not leaving at the start of the season.

Now, even though Dessers expressed his desire to stay put at Rangers before the end of the just-concluded campaign, the speculations surrounding his future have not ended.

The Super Eagles star even confirmed that Olympiacos and AEK Athens are interested in acquiring his services.

Rangers are aware of the interest, and they appear willing to sell. According to Daily Record, Gers have set a €5 million price tag for Dessers.

Soccer Rangers ready to move on from Cyriel Dessers

Rangers parted ways with interim coach Barry Ferguson at the end of the season and announced the appointment of former Southampton coach Russell Martin as coach last week.

It appears that the Scottish tactician does not mind letting Dessers leave. In the meantime, Rangers are looking to sign another striker.

The Daily Record reports that the Gers are interested in signing Dor Turgeman from Maccabi Tel Aviv. He is valued at just around €4 million, and that is a fee that the Gers can afford.

If AEK Athens table a good offer, the former Scottish Premiership champions will likely yield and let go of Dessers.

The Super Eagles star would provide AEK Athens a significant presence in front of goal. He has excellent positioning and can produce clutch goals.

The last time Dessers was in action was in the Unity Cup, when he contributed ta goal and an assist to help the Super Eagles win the tournament.
