The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has confirmed a £39m investment over three years into its National Construction College (NCC) estate, including major upgrades at sites in Erith, Bircham and Inchinnan.

Work at the Erith campus in south-east London is already under way following board-level approval for an £11m capital spend in 2025. A total of £30m has been earmarked for the site between 2025 and 2028.

Contractors appointed through the Crown Commercial Services framework demolished obsolete buildings at Erith in April. New training blocks and technology installations will support the college’s expansion and environmental targets.

The wider investment programme will increase the range and volume of apprenticeship and commercial training across all three campuses. In 2025–26, CITB expects to spend over £15m on the estate, with sustainability a core focus.

CITB said the NCC would enhance its role in large-scale infrastructure by offering new programmes aligned with evolving industry needs. Redevelopment works have been phased to avoid disruption to existing training.

Kirsty Evans, executive principal for NCC, said the college was “firmly focused on achieving great outcomes” for students and employers. She added: “Our vision is to support the construction industry by expanding our training offer, delivering high-quality teaching and learner support, and collaborating with the wider industry to maximise our impact.”

The NCC forms part of CITB’s strategy to tackle skills shortages and improve retention across the sector.
