Glenview Homes became the sixth builder in the area May 3 when it launched its new development called Union West.

Located just east of the intersection on the north side of Fernbank, Union West is an enclave of about 100 two-storey townhomes and singles on 30- and 36-foot lots. Among them are four new floor plans and options for multigenerational living.

“In some ways it’s like we’re coming full circle back to where we started,” says managing director Jake Shabinsky, referring to the company’s first development in nearby Kanata South, Monahan Landing, which launched in 2012.

“It’s a perfect match for us and a place where people will congregate and come together and be a community that’s obviously unique to Glenview Homes but also part of this broader Fernbank community design plan that’s been master planned for years.”

Union West is also hugged by the burgeoning Westwood development to the north and east in an area that is growing rapidly but one that also benefits from the many established amenities of the mature communities of Kanata and Stittsville around it. There is plenty of shopping — both big box and boutique — schools, green space and more; and nearby recreation includes such draws as The Great Trail, the Canadian Tire Centre and the CARDELREC Recreation Complex.

Unusually for a newly launched project, Glenview already has a fully furnished, designer-decorated model home that prospective buyers can tour. The company was able to have the model ready because it took advantage of an infill lot just down the street that already had city servicing and built the model before releasing the project.

The model is Glenview’s Reveli floor plan, which was recently introduced at The Commons in Orléans and which will also be available at Union West. The four-bedroom two-storey is one of Glenview’s multigenerational floor plan options, although the model shows the home’s standard layout with a main-floor office and oversized walk-in pantry and mud room instead.

“This plan just offers a lot of versatility,” says sales and marketing manager Kristy Brayton, noting that the home can have up to six bedrooms to meet different family types and sizes. The model does show a fifth bedroom in the basement, which is decorated as a workout space but includes a Murphy bed for guests to illustrate how it can easily be a multi-purpose space.
