Administrators have been appointed for commercial building manufacturer Jans Offsite Solutions.

The Antrim-based firm, which is a subsidiary of Jans Holdings Ltd, appointed insolvency experts from Keenan Corporate Finance in Belfast on 19 May.

According to accounts for the year ending 31 December 2023, Jans Offsite Solutions has 79 employees.

It had said that the losses it experienced were “part of an overall strategic plan to grow and develop the business, and the directors expected the company to generate a profit in the next 18 months”.

Accounts for Jans Holding, which is still operating, report a pre-tax loss of £4.9m for 2023, following a loss of £3.3m the year before.

Its turnover, however, increased from £13.5m to £20.5m.

Last week, two other Jans firms entered administration: Jans Composites and Etrux.

In total, the three companies in administration employed about 200 people.

The same joint administrators for Jans Offsite Solutions, Scott Murray and Ian Davison from Keenan, have also been appointed for Jans Composites, which employed 51 people, and Etrux, which had 48 staff.

According to the latest figures from the Insolvency Service, 4,111 construction firms collapsed in the year to 31 March 2025.

While this was lower than the 4,274 construction business failures reported in the year to 31 March 2024, the sector accounted for 17 per cent of all insolvencies in the UK.

The offsite industry has been particularly hard-hit, and Jans Offsite Solutions is the latest to collapse.

In January, Scottish affordable housing specialist Connect Modular appointed administrators.

Derby-based modular builder TopHat plunged more than £50m into the red in the year to 31 October 2023 and ceased trading before the end of 2024.

ModPods International appointed administrators last summer after spiralling relocation costs hit its bottom line.

Investor L&G wound down its offsite business in 2023 after years of heavy losses and modular specialist Urban Splash House entered administration in May 2022, blaming operating issues at its factory in Alfreton.

Other specialists including Ilke Homes, Mid Group, Eco Modular Buildings and Caledonian Modular have also failed in recent years.
