Table salt vs. Himalayan pink salt: Which is healthier?

While table salt is commonly used in most households, Himalayan pink salt has gained popularity for its perceived health benefits.

Table salt is highly processed and contains mostly sodium chloride. Himalayan pink salt has trace minerals like potassium, magnesium, and calcium, which give it a pink colour.

Mineral Content

Table salt undergoes refining and may have additives like anti-caking agents. Himalayan pink salt is less processed and usually free from additives.

Processing & Additives

Both salts contain sodium, but table salt has a slightly higher sodium content per gram. Himalayan salt may have slightly lower sodium, making it a better option for those watching their intake.

Sodium Levels

Table salt is fortified with iodine, which is essential for thyroid health. Himalayan pink salt has very little iodine naturally.

Iodine Content

Excessive sodium from any salt can raise blood pressure. Himalayan salt’s mineral content may offer slight benefits, but moderation is key for both.

Blood pressure

If you need iodine, table salt is a better choice. If you prefer a natural, less processed option with trace minerals, Himalayan pink salt is a good alternative.

Which One is Better?
