Chukwudi Chiketa, the Fire Chief of the Anambra Fire Service, confirmed the incident to the Media on Wednesday. He stated that while the exact cause of the fire is still unknown, fire crews responded promptly and contained the flames, preventing further damage.

Despite the destruction of the affected shops, many others were spared. The fire service continued to battle the flames until 3:05 a.m., with residents and sympathizers seen trying to salvage what remained of the goods.
