Beijing will not engage in market dumping, China’s ambassador to India says

China will not dump its goods in other countries due to its trade and tariff war with the U.S., Beijing’s ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, wrote in an article on Tuesday, trying to allay fears of cheap Chinese goods flooding other markets.

In tit-for-tat tariffs between the world’s two biggest economies, China and the U.S. have hiked levies on each other’s goods to over 100% since U.S. President Donald Trump took office in January, rattling global markets.

The trade war has stoked fears that Chinese firms may divert goods to other markets, hitting competitiveness of exports from other countries.

India, the world’s second-biggest producer of crude steel, last week imposed a 12% temporary tariff on some steel imports, locally known as a safeguard duty, to curb a surge in cheap shipments primarily from China.

Amnesty International accuses Israel of ‘live-streamed genocide’ against Gaza Palestinians

Amnesty International on Tuesday accused Israel of committing a “live-streamed genocide” against Palestinians in Gaza by forcibly displacing most of the population and deliberately creating a humanitarian catastrophe.

In its annual report, Amnesty charged that Israel had acted with “specific intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza, thus committing genocide”.

Israel has rejected accusations of “genocide” from Amnesty, other rights groups and some states in its war in Gaza.

The conflict erupted after the Palestinian militant group Hamas’s deadly October 7, 2023 attacks inside Israel that resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

Militants also abducted 251 people, 58 of whom are still held in Gaza, including 34 the Israeli military says are dead.

Wadettiwar had sparked a row with his statement on “do terrorists have time to ask about religion?”

Bawankule termed the Congress leader remark as very “shameful” and “insensitive” stating that PM Modi will teach a “lesson” to Pakistan.

“He has made an insensitive, very shameless statement regarding the Pahalgam attack. He has no right to make such a statement. Modi ji will teach Pakistan a good lesson. In such a situation, the whole country stands with Modi ji…”, Bawankule told reporters in Nagpur.

“Do terrorists have time for all this? Some people say that this did not happen. Terrorists have no caste or religion. Catch those who are responsible and take action. This is the sentiment of the country”, Wadettiwar said in his statement.

However, as the matter began to heat up, Wadettiwar released a video stating that terrorists’ actions aimed to “make the country unstable” and incite division between religions.

“Fire department has failed to control it,” says NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique on Bandra blaze

NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique on Tuesday blamed the fire department for failing to control the blaze that broke out at the Croma showroom located in the Link Square Mall in Bandra.

A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Croma showroom, located in the basement of Link Square Mall, situated on Linking Road in Bandra West, Mumbai, according to officials. The fire was first reported at 4:11 AM, and by 4:49 AM, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) had declared it a Level-III fire, indicating a serious situation.

Speaking to the mediapersons, NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique said, “We have been here since 4 AM. The fire department has failed to control the fire… It could have easily been controlled initially, but the fire officers were ill-equipped. There was just a small spark in the basement of the Croma store, and it could have been easily controlled if action had been taken in time. However, the fire officers were not properly equipped, and even when they had the necessary equipment, they didn’t use it correctly.”

Siddique alleged that the fire, which began as a small spark around 4 AM, could have been easily brought under control if the fire brigade had responded effectively.
