Regina man arrested after foot chase faces kidnapping, assault and weapons charges: police

The man held a knife to a woman’s back before getting into a cab and fleeing from a business where he was said to have threatened people, according to Regina police.

A 35-year-old Regina man is facing a list of charges after an episode that involved threats at knifepoint and ended in a foot chase, according to police.

The Regina Police Service (RPS) sent out a news release Friday stating that officers were dispatched at around 12:30 a.m. to a business on the 2800 block of East Quance Street.

A report was received about a man threatening people inside the business with a knife, according to the release.

The individual, who came into the business with a female, then held a knife to her back and got into a cab, fleeing the scene,” it states.

The release goes on to say that, a short time later, police received a call from someone who is believed to have been the female inside the taxi.

The suspect was heard threatening the female and cab driver before exiting the vehicle,” says RPS.

Officers tracked down the suspect on the 400 block of Toronto Street, where he was running eastbound with what looked to be a gun, according to the release.

After a brief foot pursuit, the male was taken into custody without incident. A search of the area revealed the firearm.”

The man was scheduled to make his first provincial court appearance Friday afternoon, facing 14 new charges.

Those include kidnapping, mischief, uttering threats, assault, assault with a weapon, various firearms-related charges and breaching a long-term supervision order.
