I’ll Not Leave My Husband If He Cheats; the Next Man Might Be Worse – Says Former Agona West MP, Cynthia Morrison

The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Agona West constituency, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, says she will not leave her husband just because he cheated on her.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News, Morrison said even if she comes upon her husband in bed with another woman, leaving him will never cross her mind. Morrison said she will pick him up from his adulterous activity and send him home.

The former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection during the erstwhile NPP government said there is a possibility that if she leaves her husband for another man, that man might be worse than her current spouse. She said in such a situation, it’s better to stick with the ‘devil’ you know.

“Even if you come and tell me you saw my husband with a girl, I will not leave him,” Morrison said. “Even if I go and see him on a lady, I will just pick him up and we’ll come home. Oh yes! From there, I don’t know the next man I’m going to meet; he might be worse than my husband. So whatever you have, you polish it,” she said.

Morrison was speaking about her unexpected loss in the NPP 2024 parliamentary primaries when she was unseated by a former close associate, Christopher Arthur.

The two-time Agona West MP revealed that Arthur, whom she thought was on her side, went behind her back to pick forms to contest against her. She said he ran a dirty campaign, including telling people her own husband encouraged him to run against her. Morrison said it was a calculated attempt to sow discord in her marriage, leading to her revealing why she will never leave her husband.

Morrison contested the 2024 Parliamentary elections as an Independent candidate in the Agona West constituency after losing the NPP primaries to Arthur. Eventually, Morrison’s attempt to retain the seat she first won in 2016 fell short, as she lost the December 2024 elections to the NDC’s Ernestina Ofori Dangbey. Morrison polled 13% as an Independent candidate, a figure that fell behind Athur’s 38%. Nevertheless, the NDC candidate won with only 48% of the vote, indicating Morrison peeling away votes from Arthur contributed to his defeat.
