22 African Countries That May Face Travel Ban from Trump Administration

The Trump administration is reportedly considering implementing new travel restrictions on citizens from various countries, including multiple African nations, according to insiders.

The list, still under review and pending final approval, includes a number of African countries categorised into three levels of restrictions.

Full Visa Suspension (“Red Category”)

Countries in this category could see a complete prohibition on entry into the U.S. for their citizens. This would bar individuals from these nations from obtaining any type of U.S. visa, thus preventing any form of travel, work, or study in the United States. The countries proposed in this strictest category include:

  • Libya
  • Sudan
  • Somalia

Partial Visa Suspension (“Orange Category”)

This category would involve restrictions on specific visa types, such as tourist and student visas, while possibly allowing other types like diplomatic or work visas. Affected applicants would need to undergo in-person interviews to secure a visa. Countries considered for partial suspensions include:

  • South Sudan
  • Sierra Leone
  • Eritrea

Conditional Suspension Based on Compliance (“Yellow List”)

Countries on this list have 60 days to address specific deficiencies related to security measures, identity verification, or cooperation with U.S. immigration enforcement. Failure to meet these requirements could lead to harsher restrictions. This list includes:

  • Angola
  • Burkina Faso
  • Cape Verde
  • Cameroon
  • Chad
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • Gambia
  • Liberia
  • Benin
  • Republic of Congo
  • Malawi
  • Mali
  • Mauritania
  • São Tomé and Príncipe
  • Zimbabwe
