Dier to swap Bayern for Monaco after agreeing three-year deal

Eric Dier has agreed to join Monaco on a three-year deal when his contract with Bayern Munich ends on July 1.

The former Tottenham defender won the first trophy of his career as Bayern reclaimed the Bundesliga crown from Bayer Leverkusen this season.

Dier made just 21 starts across all competitions for Vincent Kompany’s side in the 2024-25 campaign, though, and he has opted to leave the Allianz Arena for the Ligue 1 side.

“I cannot wait to get started,” Dier said in a video posted on Monaco’s social media channels, posing with the club shirt.

“I’m really looking forward to wearing this shirt and I can’t wait to meet everyone at the club and the Stade Louis II. I’m going to give everything to the club.”

The 31-year-old joined Bayern on loan from Tottenham in January 2024 before signing a permanent deal last year, linking up with former team-mate Harry Kane.

Despite only playing 27 games overall this season, Dier still ranked second among Bayern players for headed clearances, with his 49 only behind first-choice centre-back Kim Min-Jae (75).

Monaco’s acquisition secures proven international experience, given Dier – whose contract includes an additional year option – has been capped 49 times for England.

The defender will have the chance to play in the Champions League again next season, with Monaco set to finish at least third in the French top flight with one game to play.
