Some official GTA 6 news is expected in the next couple of weeks, but a fresh YouTube update has suggested the game is still on track for 2025 as Rockstar stays tight-lipped on the project

You know what’s wild? Within the next month, we should have a much better idea of whether Grand Theft Auto 6 will ACTUALLY launch in this calendar year, thanks to Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, holding its earnings call.
Rockstar itself has been silent for more than 500 days at this point which is impressive given the fan demand for the smallest crumb of news, but now it appears that a backend update on YouTube might have revealed that we’re closer than ever to the start of marketing.
While we’ve been waiting for Trailer 2 for a year and a half, a new tweak in the YouTube settings may have suggested we’re getting a little closer.
Here’s all we know.
GTA 6 YouTube update could spell huge news
Over on the ever-growing GTA 6 subreddit (1.3 million subscribers now), one post explained that GTA 6 can now be listed in the video game category data.
Prior to this update, GTA 5 was the most recent game listed, suggesting Google could be gearing up for an influx of video content on the platform – and maybe, Rockstar’s own trailer.
Look, we’ll admit, there’s some straw-clutching going on here, but the ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ category on YouTube is also listed with a 2025 release date, suggesting someone, somewhere, is convinced there’s no delay coming.
“If the game releases in 2025, or better yet, if there is a trailer in May, I will literally chop off my b*** at this point” one comment reads, before being edited hastily after it gained traction.
“I can’t f***ing lie, I did not think anyone would see this s***. I’m optimistic about there not being a trailer in May, but in hindsight, the game is 90% going to release this year… so f*** me.”

Others joked about more bizarre number theories, but it really does feel like we’re on the cusp of a huge update to our GTA 6 release hopes.
That said, some people weren’t convinced. One commenter said, “How could you possibly have come to the conclusion that this was worth posting?
“You think Rockstar decided to contact YouTube and tell them specifically what the release date is? No, it’s a placeholder, and almost definitely generated automatically.”
Well, that’s no fun.
