Arizona sports betting handle hits $849.3M in December 2024

Arizona’s sports betting handle across online and retail platforms reached $849.3 million (€778.3 million/£655.5 million), marking a 20.2% increase from December 2023. However, this was 5.4% lower than the record set in November 2024.

Data from the Arizona Department of Gaming reveals that online wagers accounted for $844.3 million of the total, while retail sportsbooks contributed $5.1 million.

Gross event wagering revenue before deductions stood at $49.3 million, significantly lower than the $69.3 million recorded in 2023 and 41.4% below November’s peak of $84.1 million. Online bets generated $49.3 million in revenue, whereas retail betting brought in only $45,000.

After deducting $23.5 million in free bets and promotions, adjusted gross revenue fell to $25.8 million, representing a 44.2% year-on-year drop and a 55.1% decline from November.

The sportsbooks’ pre-deduction hold rate was 5.8%, while the adjusted hold rate after free bets stood at 2.77%. Bettors reclaimed $798.2 million from their wagers, and state tax revenue totaled $2.6 million, with online betting contributing nearly all of it, while retail betting added just $3,600.
