650 influencers were invited to HK in first quarter

The Hong Kong Tourism Board has invited more than 650 influencers to the SAR in the first quarter of this year, cultural and tourism chief Rosanna Law said on Wednesday.

That came after YouTube streamer IShowSpeed drew massive crowds of fans and caused disruptions as he toured around the city early this month.

In a written reply to a lawmaker, Law said police will closely monitor the situation and deploy manpower to handle potential emergencies in any future similar events.

For Hong Kong’s “Super March”, the board collaborated with nearly 100 celebrities from around the world, she added.

Notable figures included world snooker number one Judd Trump and South Korean actor Wi Ha-joon, who starred in Netflix’s hit series Squid Game 2.

Law said the board evaluates potential partnerships with influencers based on the size of their fan base, social media engagement rates, professional status and image.

Looking ahead, the board will invite more globally renowned stars to the city, she added.
