Contractors are being encouraged to help raise standards across the property flood resilience (PFR) industry following the launch of a new trade body.

The International Property Flood Resilience Association (IPFRA) is officially launching on 3 June at the Flood & Coast Conference in Telford.

It aims to provide a unified voice for professionals working in PFR and to support the sector’s expansion through training, knowledge-sharing and improved working practices.

Graham Brogden, chair of IPFRA and managing director of GJB Consultancy, said contractors had a central role to play in embedding resilience into the built environment. He said: “As we continue to mainstream PFR, it’s vital that we put the right structures in place to raise standards, encourage collaboration, and support the sector’s growth.”

The body has been established to represent contractors, surveyors, installers and others working on flood resilience projects.

Until now, no central organisation has supported this workforce or championed its contribution to climate adaptation and construction.

IPFRA is encouraging businesses across construction, planning and engineering to join.

It will promote best practice in line with the CIRIA (formerly known as the Construction Industry Research and Information Association) Code of Practice for Property Flood Resilience.

Members are also expected to adhere to a new code of conduct covering professionalism, quality and customer service.

Founding members include Gareth Boyd of Watertight International, Shelley Evans of JBA Consulting, Jo Ewart-Sear of Whitehouse Construction, Russell Burton of RAB Consultants, Matt Keight of M3 Floodtec, Simon Crowther of FPS Environmental and Gavin George of APEX Flood Solutions. Secretariat support is provided by Thornby Associates, led by Mike Ockenden.

The body is now accepting expressions of interest from other organisations active in, or looking to move into, the flood resilience sector.
