Manchester City head into tonight’s crunch game in the battle for the Champions League places in strong form having won four of their last five matches, unbeaten in six, in all competitions following their 2-0 win at Everton on Saturday afternoon.

The victory kept Pep Guardiola’s side in the fifth and final Champions League position in a frantic battle which sees just three points separate third and seventh with five games of the league season remaining.

The four-time defending Premier League champions will climb into the top three with a win tonight, with the Citizens sat two points off Nottingham Forest in third, and one point clear of both Chelsea and Aston Villa below them.

Tonight’s game has been brought forward from the weekend due to both sides being in FA Cup semi final action at the end of the week.

Aston Villa make the daunting trip to the Etihad tonight having won 10 of their last 11 matches in all competitions, including each of their last seven in domestic matches.

Unai Emery’s side’s current run has seen them climb into seventh place after their thumping 4-1 win over fellow top five chasers Newcastle on Saturday evening, and have opened up an eight point gap over Bournemouth in eighth place.

The West Midlands side head into tonight’s game just a point shy of their opponents in the all important fifth spot, though will know they can climb into fourth with a win at the Etihad tonight.

The Villans will have recent history up against them ahead of this evening’s clash though, having lost each of their last 14 league games at the Etihad, dating back 18 years since their last top flight victory at Eastlands.
