PhonePe has launched UPI Circle, making it easier for users to do payments on behalf of their close ones. The feature enables dependents to create their UPI ID without linking it to a bank account.

This expands online payments for users who have limited access to digital financial services.

A primary user can add their friend or someone from their family to their circle on PhonePe using a UPI ID or QR code. The primary users will be able to review payment requests for the secondary users, track their expenses and get secure access to their detailed payment records within the circle.

They can also delink someone from their UPI Circle if they need.

Users must open the PhonePe app enable UPI Circle and invite secondary contacts. Once they’ve accepted, they will be added to the circle.

“UPI Circle is a significant step forward in extending the ease and convenience of digital payments for those who are underbanked and those new to the ecosystem. This can be a parent providing expenses to their college kids, authorizing payments on behalf of older parents who may be wary of digital payments or busy individuals who want to delegate household chores. Integrating UPI Circle into the PhonePe app, aligns perfectly with our vision of democratizing digital payments and making financial services accessible to all. We’re confident that this will further accelerate the adoption of UPI across India.” Sonika Chandra, Chief Business Officer, Consumer Payments, PhonePe said about the launch.
