What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I decided to play football at the age of four because my dad and a group of friends and their families and there kids wanted all of us to play and we played baseball together already so it was just another sport for us to try at a young age. And it kept us busy.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

My favorite football moments are my sophomore year playing in a playoff game at Landmark Christian school versus Darlington where I had two interceptions and a game sealing touchdown. My other favorite memory was my first start at Stanford where we upset #3 Oregon and I had 10 tackles.

What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?

I am trying to go as far in this game as I can. I don’t like to think too far down the line. I am actively focused daily on being the best player I can be and wherever that takes me then so be it I will play because I love this game.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?

I would like to meet Charles Woodson. I just think he was such a versatile and dynamic player and he had such an effect on the game and he intimidated opposing quarterbacks.

Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?

I am inspired by my parents the most. By example, they have showed me a relentless work ethic. They have always been disciplined and they inspire me to be great in every aspect of my life.

What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?

My favorite defensive coverage as a corner is probably man because there is nothing like looking at the man across from you after you beat him in a rep. I love the competition. As a safety I like when I get to be the down player in a one high look where I can play off the quarterbacks eyes and make plays in the run or pass game.

What should we know about Nic Toomer the person?

As a person I think the word to best describe me is consistent. I bring a positive attitude to my team and a work ethic that won’t quit. I lead by example snd never get to high or low just stay somewhere in the middle. I think I have been through so much adversity in my career already that I cannot be broken by any situation that comes up.

What stands out about your film the most?

I think what stands out the most is athleticism and physicality; willingness to show up in the run game and also being able to cover. The versatility I have to play both corner and safety I think is rare and makes me a high commodity.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

I handle my issues with prayer. I think my religion helps me find peace of mind when I I face challenges. Also I have surrounded myself with people who I love and trust and will always give me an unbiased outlook to keep me grounded through hard times.

What would a team get in a player like you?

A team would get a guy who’s hungry and more motivated than ever. I think there is so much left in my football career that I have not accomplished, I think the surface of my potential hasn’t even been grazed yet.

What do you love the most about the game of football?

I love the process, I love the preparation that it takes to be great because that gives me confidence. When I am on the field I am confident because I know how hard I’ve worked throughout the week to be ready for the game. Knowing that the person across from me has studied me as well. It’s a game of strategy and will and I love to compete.

Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?

The most underrated player I have ever played with is Jonathan McGill. He is one of the smartest players I have ever shared the field with. He along with a host of other guys at Stanford made me love the film room which I think took my game to the next level.
