Kraken has partnered with Mastercard to enable users in the UK and Europe to spend cryptocurrencies at over 150 million merchants worldwide. This collaboration builds upon the success of Kraken Pay, which has facilitated instant, borderless payments in over 300 cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies. Kraken plans to introduce physical and digital debit cards to bridge the gap between the crypto economy and everyday spending and has introduced a waitlist for interested customers.

Kraken Pay Expands to Offer Cards

Launched in January 2025, Kraken Pay enables users to send and receive payments using over 300 cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies. This feature allows for instant, borderless transactions directly between Kraken accounts, facilitating activities such as paying friends or sending money overseas. Users can create a unique identifier called a “Kraktag” to simplify the process of sending and receiving funds.

In just 90 days, over 200,000 Kraken clients have activated their “Kraktag,” and the MasterCard partnership builds on this success.

Physical and Digital Cards on Offer

As part of this collaboration, Kraken plans to swiftly expand its payment offerings by introducing physical and digital debit cards in the coming weeks. This move aims to bridge the gap between the crypto economy and everyday spending. David Ripley, co-CEO of Kraken, stated, “Our clients want to easily pay for real-world goods and services with their cryptocurrencies or stablecoins. Our partnership with Mastercard is a major step toward realizing this vision.”

Scott Abrahams, executive vice president of global partnerships at Mastercard, added, “Mastercard is committed to fostering innovation and expanding the possibilities offered by digital payments. Our partnership with Kraken is a concrete proof of this, as we work together to unlock the true potential of crypto-assets for everyday use.”

Kraken clients interested in joining the waitlist for this new crypto payment offering can sign up through the company’s official channels.
