Can Ndidi’s Leicester survive relegation? Ruud Van Nistelrooy has his say

Soccer

Leicester City head coach, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, has vowed his side will fight to the very end to ensure top-flight status in the English Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former Manchester United forward was without Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, when he took over the coaching reins at the King Power Stadium.

The former Genk man was battling an injury at the time, and while his return promised a huge boost for the Foxes, it failed to deliver as they’re yet to win a game since their 2-1 victory over Ange Postecoglu’s Tottenham Hotspur in January.

While Ndidi’s national teammates, Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu, have been relegated to the EFL Championship with Southampton, Leicester’s coach has revealed his team won’t throw the towel in.

“We have to get up. It’s my responsibility to do my job the best I can for the last eight games. I don’t look further on. It’s hard enough to keep the spirits up and everyone together because it’s not going well.

“We are a team, and we stick together. If we do that, we have a chance of results. We are purely focused on the games, and it’s difficult enough to keep our spirits up in the space we are in.

“It’s something that I feel I want to go through with the team, the squad and the staff. Stay together and stay connected. Fight through this as people. We need to give everything every day to get out of this. It is not something I want to walk away from. I want to fight every day. We will fight until the end,” the ex-Real Madrid striker said in quotes revealed by BBC Sports.

Leicester City are currently 19th on the English Premier League table, directly above already-relegated Southampton. However, the Foxes have hope, albeit very little.

Ndidi’s side are 15 points away from safety. If they’re to remain in the English top-flight, they’ll have to win their remaining eight league games, else, it’s a return to the Championship.
