On Tuesday, less than a month before the season four premiere on March 7, Starz dropped a trailer for the new batch of episodes of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. It opens with the title character, Kanan Stark, played by Mekai Curtis, fielding questions about identity and pondering exactly who he wants to be in the shadow of his powerhouse mother, Raq, played by Patina Miller.
Who can blame him after that explosive season three finale that ended in a bloodbath and brought mother and son face to face with the realization that they may be much more alike than they previously thought. “I want them to see me as me, not who my mother is,” Kanan says in the new clip.
As it unfolds, the trailer shows a more confident Kanan paving his way in business while Raq questions if she can trust her son in blood and business. As they continue to expand their reign in the drug empire, they continue their collaborations with street legends Snaps (Wendell Pierce) and Pop (Erika Woods) and Italian mob boss Stefano Marchetti (Tony Danza) amid scenes featuring pops of gunfire.
The trailer also features a chilling appearance from the resurrected Unique, played by Joey Bada$$, who is seemingly back from the dead and looking for revenge. Season four also features the debuts of new cast members Pardison Fontaine as B-Rilla, Saturday Night Live alum Chris Redd as Early Tyler, Sibongile Mlambo as Imani Okoye and Paul Ben-Victor as Phil Russo.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan is the second series in the expanded Power franchise. Sascha Penn continues his run as showrunner and executive producer. The Power Universe series is executive produced by the creator and showrunner of the original Power, Courtney A. Kemp through her production company End of Episode, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through G-Unit Film and Television, and Mark Canton through Canton Entertainment. Chris Selak and Kevin Fox also serve as executive producers. Lionsgate Television produces the series for Starz.
