Late last month came the official word that Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is set to hit Japanese theaters on September 19. Now Sony Pictures Entertainment has revealed that it has theatrical rights around the globe, and will be putting the movie in theaters in almost 100 countries, including the United States.

More than 80 nations can mark September 25 as the premiere date, just days after the Japanese release. America, however, will have to wait a little longer, as our release date has been set as October 29.

As the title indicates, the movie covers the Reze Arc from the manga. The TV anime of Chainsaw Man debuted in 2022, and the series is being streamed by Crunchyroll.

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is being directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, who is known for being an episode director, storyboarder, and key animator for the TV series. Many people from the series are also involved in the movie, including scriptwriter Hiroshi Seko, assistant director Masato Nakazono, character designer Kazutaka Sugiyama, composer kensuke ushio, and sub character designer Sota Yamazaki. TOHO is handling distribution, and MAPPA is in charge of production.

MAPPA gave this description for the movie:

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc Plot

Denji became “Chainsaw Man”, a boy with a devil’s heart, and is now part of Special Division 4’s devil hunters. After a date with Makima, the woman of his dreams, Denji takes shelter from the rain. There he meets Reze, a girl who works in a café.

The series started out as a manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, which is available in English through VIZ Media. It got its start in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018. It’s nabbed the Harvey Awards’ Best Manga award for three years in a row. You can check out Otaku USA’s review on the first volume of the Chainsaw Man manga here.
