Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen loses Africa’s MVP crown as Manchester City star takes top spot

Soccer

Victor Osimhen is no longer the most valuable footballer on the African continent after his market value took another hit, allowing Egypt’s Omar Marmoush to claim the top spot, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen, who had held the title of Africa’s most valuable player since 2023 when he reached his highest value of €120 million, has now been overtaken by the Manchester City winger, as per Transfermarkt

The Nigerian forward’s stock has been declining since his move to Galatasaray on loan from Napoli.

Initially valued at €100 million last summer, his worth was downgraded to €75 million, and after failing to secure a move to a major European league in the winter transfer window, his valuation has now fallen further to €70 million.

Despite the drop, Osimhen remains the most valuable player in the Turkish Süper Lig. However, he has now slipped to second place in Africa’s rankings, with Marmoush taking the top spot at €75 million.

Marmoush has been in sensational form.

The Egyptian forward was outstanding for Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 15 goals and providing 10 assists in just 17 Bundesliga appearances before making a €75 million move to Manchester City in January.

He has already made an impact at the Etihad, registering four goals and an assist in seven Premier League matches under Pep Guardiola. Marmoush, whose contract with City runs until 2029, now stands as Africa’s most valuable player.

Despite his dip in valuation, Osimhen remains Nigeria’s most valuable footballer, holding a €10 million lead over Ademola Lookman.

The Atalanta winger has seen his market value soar from €9 million in 2021 to a career-high €60 million in 2025, yet he still ranks fourth among Africa’s elite players.

Lookman trails Morocco and PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi, who is valued at €65 million.

Nigeria’s Victor Boniface is the only other Super Eagles star in the top ten, with the Bayer Leverkusen striker valued at €45 million. He shares ninth place with Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson both hold a €55 million valuation, while Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus are each valued at €50 million.
