Road Ninja hits the Aussie roads to tackle driver shortages

Australia’s transport and logistics industries are getting a game-changing boost as New Zealand-based Road Ninja announces its expansion into the local market.

Set to launch by late January 2025, the move marks a pivotal moment for the company as it brings its cutting-edge solutions to address critical driver shortages in the Australian market. Road Ninja offers a seamless, technology-driven platform that connects businesses with a pool of pre-vetted, skilled drivers, empowering companies to meet their labor demands efficiently.

The platform’s Australian debut will initially focus on the fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) mining industry—an essential pillar of the country’s billion-dollar mining economy—while opening doors for skilled drivers to access competitive job opportunities nationwide.

A proven track record in New Zealand

In just its first year in New Zealand, Road Ninja has onboarded over 500 drivers and partnered with 100 businesses, facilitating transactions exceeding $1 million. CEO and Founder Bodhi Vette is confident the platform’s success will translate seamlessly into the Australian market. “The expansion into Australia is a key part of our growth strategy,” Vette said. “Our initial focus will be on FIFO driving roles in the mining sector, leveraging the extensive experience of Kiwi drivers who understand the unique demands of this industry. At the same time, we’re excited to create new opportunities for Australian drivers and businesses, meeting the growing demand for professional drivers.”

Expanding opportunities for drivers and businesses

Road Ninja’s innovative subscription model integrates contract driver sourcing, job board advertising, and direct recruitment, offering businesses a cost-effective, scalable solution.

This model eliminates traditional recruitment fees, providing flexibility to meet short- and medium-term staffing needs while allowing direct hires from the platform. For drivers, the app prioritizes transparency and empowerment, enabling them to set their rates, showcase their skills with digital CVs, and access a suite of tools like job reviews, logbooks, and document management.

“We aim to connect people with work opportunities across Australia, from east to west,” Vette explained. “Our platform gives drivers and businesses the tools to thrive in today’s dynamic transport and logistics industry.”

Strong backing and future growth

With Andrew Ritchie, a prominent investor with significant transport expertise, on board, Road Ninja’s Australian expansion also targets the inclusion of bus drivers in its network. Ritchie, who previously sold Ritchies Coachlines to KKR Group, brings a wealth of industry knowledge to support the platform’s growth.

“Andrew’s experience is invaluable as we look to redefine driver employment solutions in Australia,” Vette said.

Redefining recruitment in the transport industry

Differentiating itself from traditional recruitment agencies, Road Ninja’s subscription-based approach reduces costs while maximizing value for businesses. Vette sees the Australian expansion as the next chapter in the company’s journey.

“Our platform is purpose-built to solve the challenges of the modern transport industry. We’re excited about the opportunities ahead for drivers and businesses on both sides of the Tasman,” he concluded.
