Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Aaronson, Morris, and more

Brenden Aaronson didn’t let being left off of the March U.S. men’s national team roster derail him from delivering a strong performance in Leeds United’s midweek victory.

Aaronson logged a strong 90 minutes as Daniel Farke’s men defeated visiting Millwall 2-0 at Elland Road. The result moved the Lilywhites back to first place in the EFL Championship with nine matches to go.

Jake Cooper’s early own goal paired with Ao Tanaka’s insurance goal with five minutes to play helped Leeds United move four points clear to third-place Burnley for automatic promotion. Aaronson led all players in chances created (3) and fouls drawn (3) while also winning nine duels.

The veteran midfielder has gone eight matches without a goal or assist, but remains a very important players for Leeds United.

Aaronson and his Leeds teammates will now prepare for a trip to QPR on Saturday.

In Champions League play, Gio Reyna and Borussia Dortmund advanced while Richie Ledezma and PSV suffered elimination.

In England, Aidan Morris and Middlesbrough continued their quest towards being in the promotion playoffs. Caleb Wiley helped Watford close out a home victory over Swansea City.

Soccer UEFA Champions League

Richie Ledezma started and played 90 minutes in PSV’s 2-2 second leg draw with Arsenal on Wednesday. Arsenal advanced 9-3 on aggregate.

Sergino Dest dressed but did not play for PSV.

Gio Reyna came off the bench and played five minutes in Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 second leg win over Lille on Wednesday. Dortmund advanced 3-2 on aggregate.

Cole Campbell did not dress for Dortmund.

Malik Tillman, Ricardo Pepi are all OUT (Injuries).

Soccer UEFA Europa League

Tanner Tessmann started and played 54 minutes in Lyon’s 4-0 second leg win over FCSB on Thursday. Lyon advanced 7-1 on aggregate.

Timmy Chandler did not dress in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 4-1 second leg win over Ajax on Thursday. Eintracht Frankfurt advanced 6-2 on aggregate.

Soccer UEFA Conference League

Johnny Cardoso did not dress in Real Betis 4-0 second leg win over Vitoria Guimaraes on Thursday. Real Betis advanced 6-2 on aggregate.

Erik Palmer-Brown is OUT (Injury) for Panathinaikos.

Soccer Championship

Ethan Horvath started, made TWO SAVES, and played 90 minutes in Cardiff City’s 2-1 loss to Luton Town on Tuesday.

Brenden Aaronson started and played 90 minutes in Leeds United’s 2-0 win over Millwall on Wednesday.

Aidan Morris started and played 90 minutes in Middlesbrough’s 2-1 win over QPR on Tuesday.

Alex Zendejas started, scored ONE GOAL and played 90 minutes in Club America’s 4-0 second leg win over Chivas on Wednesday. Club America advanced 4-1 on aggregate.

Cade Cowell came off the bench and played seven minutes for Chivas on Wednesday.
