UEFA Champions League: Chuba Akpom’s LOSC Lille fall short to Adeyemi’s Borussia Dortmund

Soccer

LOSC Lille and Nigerian striker, Chuba Akpom, featured as his side were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League against Borussia Dortmund tonight, Soccernet.ng reports.

The French Ligue 1 side held a slender advantage heading into the second leg after securing a 1-1 away draw at the Signal Iduna Park last week.

Akpom didn’t feature at all in the first leg in Germany and started the game at home on the bench as Bruno Genesio’s side hoped to qualify for the quarter final of Europe’s biggest club competitions.

Lille took the lead at home inside five minutes. Jonathan David flicked on a brilliant cross from Brazilian full-back, Ismaily. The ball went between the legs of Dortmund’s highly-rated goalkeeper, Gregor Kobel, who knows he should’ve done better.

The four-time French Champions continued to threaten on the night but couldn’t add to their tally. After the restart, Borussia Dortmund grew into the game.

Nico Kovac’s side levelled the scores nine minutes after the second half after Thomas Meunier fouled Sehrou Guirassy, which led to a spot kick. Emre Can stepped up for Die Schwarzgelben and sent Lille goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, the wrong way.
